How to choose the right brake pads

Posted by

Brake pads are a crucial component of any motorcycle's braking system, and choosing the right type of brake pad can significantly impact your bike's performance and safety. There are several types of brake pads available for motorcycles, each with their own set of benefits and drawbacks. In this post, we'll go over the four most common types of brake pads and their benefits.

Organic Brake Pads

Organic brake pads are made from a combination of fibers, rubber, and resin. They offer good stopping power, are affordable, and produce less noise and dust compared to other types of brake pads. They also tend to be more gentle on brake rotors and are a good choice for street riding. However, they may not perform as well in extreme conditions or high-performance riding.

Semi-Metallic Brake Pads

Semi-metallic brake pads are made from a combination of metal particles and organic materials. They offer good stopping power, even in high-performance applications, and are more durable than organic brake pads. However, they produce more noise and dust and can be harder on brake rotors.

Ceramic Brake Pads

Ceramic brake pads are made from a mix of ceramic fibers, metal particles, and binding agents. They offer excellent stopping power, are quieter and produce less dust compared to other types of brake pads. They also tend to be gentle on brake rotors and are a good choice for street riding. However, they are usually more expensive than other types of brake pads.

Sintered Brake Pads

Sintered brake pads are made from a combination of metal particles and fillers that are fused together under high heat and pressure. They offer excellent stopping power, even in extreme conditions, and are very durable. However, they produce more noise and dust than other types of brake pads and can be hard on brake rotors.

When choosing brake pads for your motorcycle, it's important to consider your riding style, budget, and the type of riding you'll be doing. For street riding, organic or ceramic brake pads are usually the best choice. They offer good stopping power, produce less noise and dust, and are gentle on brake rotors. For high-performance riding or racing, semi-metallic or sintered brake pads may be a better choice, as they offer excellent stopping power even in extreme conditions. However, they may produce more noise and dust and can be harder on brake rotors.
